5 – Being obsessed with fat loss and not eating for hypertrophy.
Almost all women seem to be on some sort of diet or health “kick” at any given time but most of these women tend to never lose the weight. What people don’t realize is if they just had a bit more muscle they would burn fat much easier. The problem with eating less to weigh less is that this becomes a downward spiral of eating less and less in order to continue seeing the results because if you don’t keep eating less you will plateau. This problem leads to the ideas women get that those with more body fat have bad genetics or that dieting in general just does not work. None of this is true. Stop eating less in order to lose weight and start making healthy choices, thinking about the food your body needs to function well.
6 – Not eating enough protein.
Why are most people surprised they’re not getting enough protein? Unless you’re eating a meat, fish, dairy product or protein shake with every meal you’re likely lacking your daily requirement. Most people are used to hearing 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight, but if fat loss is a major goal, your body might need more. Proteins preserve and help build muscle, are more calorically expensive to digest than fat or carbs, take longer and keep you fuller for longer. So we dare you to track your protein for a day and see if you’re getting enough.
7 – Eating too much in the evenings.
If you tend to not eat enough for breakfast, you may be one of those people that ends the day with a few thousand calories left over and then binge post-dinner time in a hangry fit. Our parents told us breakfast is the most important meal of the day for a reason – breakfast is the time when our bodies raise our energy levels and restores blood glucose levels to normal after an overnight fast and lower cortisol which peaks around 7 – 8am. High cortisol levels can not only breakdown muscle, increase appetite and store fat around your midsection. You can change this problem by eating a healthy breakfast and at regular intervals throughout the day. If you eat substantial amounts during the day and properly fuel your workouts, you will struggle much less with night time cravings.
