We decided to hop right into the Bro Diet as this is what people typically think of when they hear the word "diet". Most people think of things like whole foods, lots of vegetables, and minimal processing. This is the essence of a bro diet.
The idea behind this dieting approach is to have a person eating lower calories than they burn in a day and no junk type foods which could lead to an array of hormonal responses and inflammation. Someone on a Bro Diet would typically be following a specific plan with specific amounts, very little options and eating a regular intervals. Here is an example of what a bro diet would look like:
Meal 1 - 50 grams oats, 100 grams egg whites
Meal 2 - 100 grams tuna, 100 grams broccoli
Meal 3 - 100 grams chicken breast, 100 grams rice
Meal 4 - 100 grams of top sirloin, 100 grams of sweet potato
Meal 5 - 100 grams egg whites, 1 cup spinach
What are the benefits?
Seeing as a Bro Diet is full of whole foods, consistency and scheduling there are of course several benefits. This type of dieting approach will be very rich nutritious foods. This means the foods being consumed will be very high in micronutrients therefore they will be very good for long term health. Whole foods are also very filling which will help people from wanting to reach for snacks during the day. Because of the nature of this diet, it does teach good eating habits within a very regimented routine. If a Bro Diet is acquired by a professional and followed perfectly there is very little room for error and goals will definitely be achieved.
What are the downfalls?
Despite the positive side to this approach there are many downfalls to the bro diet as well. Because this type of dieting is very strict on what someone is to eat, it can lead to people having an unhealthy relationship with food. People on Bro Diets are given such a strict schedule that has zero room for flexibility. For most people this is not a long term form of dieting, it is just too rigid. This can lead to problems such as binging, not eating and a lot of self brutalizing behaviours when one has “cheated on their diet”.
